The Gypsum Association is pleased to announce that Susan Hines has joined the staff as Assistant Director, Technical and Promotion Services. In this position, she will support the organization’s significant contributions to model building codes and technical standards while advancing awareness of the products and services that make the Association the preeminent industry resource for leadership, education and objective expertise in gypsum board.

“The Gypsum Association and the industry it represents have a long history of commitment to quality and safety, factors which have contributed to the near universal use of gypsum board in all sectors of design and construction,” Hines said. “This position represents an opportunity to work closely with Gypsum Association Deputy Executive Director/Chief Operating Officer Steve Meima, and Senior Director of Technical Services Dr. Robert Wessel, FASTM, to advance awareness of the value both the gypsum industry and the Gypsum Association offer to the A/E/C community in the U.S. and Canada.”

Noting that collaboration and integration are hallmarks of manufacturing, design and construction, Meima said, “This hybrid role underscores the Gypsum Association’s commitment to supporting our building materials industry as we move into a new era of construction.”

Hines brings nearly 15 years of A/E/C experience to the Gypsum Association, most recently at the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) where she was director of public relations and information. Prior to DBIA, she served as the director of marketing and public relations for the design firm, Oehme, van Sweden and Associates (OvS).

She spent seven years with the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), first as founding editor of LAND Online, and later as a writer/editor on the staff of Landscape Architecture magazine. A former Andrew W. Mellon Fellow with the Frederick Law Olmsted Papers publication project, Hines received an MA in U.S. history from American University.

The Gypsum Association is in its 84th year of service as the technical, promotion, and information center of the gypsum industry. The Association, representing companies located throughout the United States and Canada, is based in Hyattsville, MD.
