Earth-friendly acoustical fiberglass
March 14, 2011
The company has converted all of its acoustical fiberglass-based product lines to a more earth-friendly core material. These fiberglass board and blanket materials are produced by Knauf using the manufacturer’s Ecose technology. This production technology uses bio-based binder materials replacing the non-renewable petroleum-based chemicals used in traditional fiberglass binder. The fiberglass is certified by GreenGuard Children and Schools for meeting low-VOC emission requirements. The binder contains no phenol, formaldehyde or acrylics. This manufacturing process reduces the embodied energy in the fiberglass binder by up to 70 percent, thereby reducing the carbon footprint of every Kinetics acoustical panel, baffle, noise curtain and floor underlayment made with fiberglass blankets and boards.
