The Environmental Protection Agency announced the availability of $100 million in grants from the Inflation Reduction Act to support efforts to report and reduce climate pollution linked to the manufacturing of construction materials and products, which account for 11 percent of annual global greenhouse gas emissions.
The Environmental Protection Agency announced the first opportunities for public input on new programs focused on lowering carbon and greenhouse gas emissions from construction materials. These new programs were made possible by a $350 million investment through the Inflation Reduction Act.
In December of this year, more than 190 nations will gather in Paris to negotiate a global agreement on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, laying the foundation to save the planet from what many believe will be a catastrophic and irreversible change in the Earth’s climate.
The latest draft version of LEED has been struggling with this environmental impact assessments, but moves ever toward a more comprehensive appraisal of the Materials and Resources credits.
