Incorporating fabricated models into BIM workflows and situations continues to be a challenge for many engineers and contractors—VIATechnik is making this process easier by offering solutions for forward—thinking mechanical, electrical, and plumbing contractors.

VIATechnik announces that it will now provide Fabrication CADmep services for Building Information Modeling to its clients. The BIM services company, which is headquartered in Chicago, is using Fabrication CADmep to help integrate fabrication process into the BIM coordination workflow.

Autodesk's Fabrication CADmep software supports detailing, fabrication, and installation workflows of MEP contractors by providing tools that create accurate and constructible models of building services systems. By utilizing real-world databases and content libraries, VIATechnik will use this software to extend design-intent models to create new models for MEP fabrication.

This service will be particularly useful for MEP contractors who wish to go beyond Revit models that are created with generic content. The detailing software will help contractors create detailed shop drawings and prepare their systems for field installation. VIATechnik's application of this software includes features that allow clients to move to BIM workflows conveniently and at a lower cost.

VIATechnik's COO, Anton Dy Buncio, states, "As we started seeing more of our MEP trade partner clients' sophistication in automation and fabrication, it really made sense for us to invest in the technology and training that allows our teams to deliver fabrication detail into the BIM. The skillset needed to do this was quite different from our technology expertise, as we also needed to know how our clients built, assembled, and delivered their product to the field."

Features of VIATechnik's new Fabrication CADmep offerings include Revit integration, extending Revit and AutoCAD MEP models, service validation, added manufacturer templates, and shared databases. Ultimately, this new service will allow VIATechnik to help its clients generate better estimates, create more accurate models, and drive the MEP fabrication process.

This is just one of VIATechnik's many solutions to today's architecture, engineering, and construction challenges. VIATechnik offers a wide range of expert services to industry professionals, including construction estimating, BIM and CAD solutions, and project administration.
