ICFA Excellence Awards

January 4, 2008
Six projects, including residential and commercial construction, were honored in the second annual Excellence Awards of the Insulating Concrete Form Association.

Six projects, including residential and commercial construction, were honored in the second annual Excellence Awards of the ICFA (Insulating Concrete Form Association).

The sprawling 210,000-square-foot Megaplex 20 at the District in South Jordan, Utah, was the Grand Commercial award winner and is one of the largest ICF projects ever built, with a wall area of 190,000 square feet in heights of 36 and 50 feet above grade.

The Grand Residental Award went to the Eberhard residence in Redmond, Ore. The home has a complex design that incorporated the lot’s terrain. It is Energy Star rated, with a stucco finish over ICFs. It was designed with Chief Architect software, which features 3-D walk-through renderings that allowed the designer to tweak the design continually.

Projects completed in 2006 that met the program’s guidelines were eligible for awards. Each entry was judged on its success in meeting requirements set forth in each category.

The first Annual Contractor of the Year Award went to Toledo Design & Development, and the Richie Scott Award went to Buddy Hughes.

Judges were: Kate Driscoll, senior manager of the Concrete Home Building Council of the National Association of Home Builders; Marshall Wallman, of Design Basics Inc.; and Joe Nasvik, senior editor, Engineering, Hanley-Wood.
