OMNOVA Wall Laminates Earn Indoor Air Quality Certification

July 12, 2013

OMNOVA Solutions announced that its 15 and 20 ounce PVC-based wall laminates have been commissioned for indoor air quality certification by MAS Certified Green, a global leader in independent certification of IAQ claims. Such claims are critical to producers of commercial office systems and furniture for meeting industry, market and government IAQ regulations and achieving additional end use certifications.

“As part of our commitment to manufacturing innovative and sustainable surfacing products, we felt MAS Certified Green certification was extremely important,” said Eric Johnson, general manager, OMNOVA Laminates. “We’re thrilled to be advancing industry standards by offering IAQ certified wall laminates intended for use in business environments.”

The MAS Certified Green program certification employs the strictest metrics for indoor air emissions in North America, guaranteeing that certified products contribute to healthier indoor environments.

“Indoor air quality is extremely important because most people spend as much as 90 percent of their day indoors, whether at home, work or school,” said Martin Bennett, technical director, MAS Certified Green. “We’re pleased to see OMNOVA’s commitment to healthier indoor environments. Poor air quality can be caused by a number of factors, including inadequate ventilation, poor cleaning and excessive emissions of volatile organic compounds. Products labeled as MAS Certified Green can be used with confidence to help improve overall indoor air quality.”

Because of the new MAS Certified Green certification, a number of select OMNOVA wall laminates also meet several environmental standards, including:

  • Collaborative for High Performance Schools, a national movement to make schools better places to learn through facilitating the design, construction and operation of high performance schools
  • California’s 01350 Special Environmental Requirements, (currently referred to as the CDPH Standard Method V1.1) designed, in part, to ensure good indoor air quality to protect human health
  • LEED 2009 and v4 Rating Systems, an international sustainability standard developed by the USGBC to promote green building and IAQ by establishing standards for low emitting materials

Testing also demonstrated that when OMNOVA’s 15-ounce wall laminates are utilized as a component in contract office wall systems, their inclusion contributes positively to those systems meeting the IAQ limits established under the ANSI/BIFMA e3 Sustainability in sections 7.6.1, 7.6.2 and 7.6.3 in private office settings.

OMNOVA Solutions designs and manufactures a comprehensive collection of wall laminates appropriate for wall systems and panels used in demountable, operable and accordion-style walls; office furniture panel systems; and vinyl-covered tack boards.

OMNOVA’s wall laminates portfolio includes a broad range of on-trend designs available in inventory for immediate shipment. In addition to wall laminates, OMNOVA offers an unparalleled range of functional and affordable decorative laminates, including high-fidelity paper laminates, vinyl-based flat laminates and 3D laminates, and alternative construction specialty laminates, as well as duraMAX flat laminates and high-performance surf(x) 3D laminates for a range of applications and end uses. OMNOVA laminates, expertly designed for today’s leading interiors, provide innovative, long lasting, and cost effective solutions for a wide range of interior environments and applications.
