The Occupational Safety and Health Administration announced public meetings of the National Advisory Committee on Occupational Safety and Health and the NACOSH Heat Injury and Illness Prevention Work Group on Sept. 12 – 13. The NACOSH Heat Injury and Illness Prevention Work Group will meet first on Sept. 12 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. EST to continue discussions started during its June 30 meeting regarding the development of a heat injury and illness prevention standard that was the subject of an Oct. 27, 2021, OSHA advanced notice of proposed rule-making regarding the extent and nature of hazardous heat in indoor and outdoor workplaces and the nature and effectiveness of interventions and controls used to prevent heat-related injury and illness. As you may recall, SWACCA submitted joint comments on this ANPRM with the Association of the Wall and Ceiling Industry back in January. The full NACOSH will subsequently meet from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 13 to discuss, among other agenda items, a report from the Heat Injury and Illness Prevention Workgroup.
NACOSH advises both the Secretary of Labor and the Secretary of Health and Human Services on matters relating to the administration of the Occupational Safety and Health Act. The Heat Injury and Illness Prevention Work Group was established to help NACOSH respond to OSHA’s request to provide recommendations on the agency’s heat injury and illness prevention guidance and rulemaking activities.
Public participation instructions will be posted here in advance. Written comments and requests to speak during the full NACOSH meeting are due by Sept. 6, 2022, and can be submitted here using Docket ID OSHA-2022-0002.
