Lafarge North America introduces the latest addition to its Weather Defense Platinum family: Weather Defense Platinum Interior, a high performance glass mat faced gypsum board designed for interior walls and ceilings applications requiring superior resistance to incidental moisture.

Lafarge’s Weather Defense Platinum Interior is manufactured with a specially formulated glass mat facer and an enhanced mold and moisture resistant core providing design professionals and contractors with a great option for applications requiring protection from standard construction exposure for up to twelve months. The board is ideal for areas such as basements, residential bathrooms and any interior side of exterior walls where moisture exposure could occur.

According to independent tests, Weather Defense Platinum Interior is highly resistant to the growth of mold and mildew and scored 10 out of a possible 10 using the ASTM D 3273 testing protocol. In addition, the unique glass mat facer offers a very smooth surface which makes it easier to handle than other fiberglass-faced boards. It is also as easy to cut, score, snap and fasten as traditional gypsum boards. Weather Defense Platinum Interior is manufactured using 100 percent synthetic gypsum, allowing the product to contribute to the attainment of LEED credits for both the Recycled Materials credit (MR 4.1 & 4.2) and the Regional Materials credit (MR 5.1 & 5.2).

According to Vice President of Sales for Lafarge North America’s Gypsum Division Stephen DeMay, “The ability to offer an entire line of Weather Defense Platinum products which all include warranted performance against interior exposure to the elements, mold and mildew resistance and LEED credit contribution, provides a competitive edge for our dealers and applicators to service their most demanding projects”.
