A Habitat for Humanity home being built for a local family has been set back after vandals caused significant damage to the property in early October, reported local Toledo news affiliates.
Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity reported that a group of teenagers broke into the Piddock Road home early one fall morning. Surveillance footage captured the suspects damaging drywall throughout the structure, including punching holes in walls and tearing down sections in a hallway. They also attempted to break windows but were unsuccessful.
“Habitat homes are built through the generosity of donors, the hard work of volunteers, and the partnership of future homeowners,” said McPartland. “When materials are stolen or homes are damaged, it doesn’t just impact a project—it impacts the entire community that has invested time, resources, and hope into making this dream a reality. We remain committed to rebuilding what was lost and moving forward. We are grateful to our supporters and neighbors who continue to stand with us to ensure every family has the foundation of a decent, affordable home.”
Despite the damage, MVHFH said construction will continue. The organization is asking the community for support—whether through donations, volunteering, or sharing information with authorities.
Police have been notified, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact law enforcement or Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity.
“Together, we can turn this act of destruction into renewed momentum for families counting on us,” the organization said.
The vandalism is expected to delay completion of the Piddock Road home by a few weeks. However, McPartland confirmed the project remains on track to be finished and dedicated to the future homeowner family by the end of November.
