USG Opens Alberta Wallboard Plant, Expands Capacity
CAD$210M facility boosts Western Canada supply

USG Corporation announced that its Canadian division, CGC Inc., has opened a new wallboard manufacturing plant in Wheatland County, Alberta.
USG Corp. has opened a new wallboard manufacturing plant in Wheatland County, Alberta, marking a CAD$210 million investment to increase production capacity and strengthen supply in Western Canada.
The facility, operated by USG's Canadian division, CGC Inc., will manufacture Sheetrock brand products used in residential, commercial and infrastructure construction. Located on 214 acres, the plant is designed to improve supply reliability across Western Canada and expand USG's North American manufacturing network.
The project follows a groundbreaking in 2024 and is part of nearly CAD$325 million in Canadian investments by USG and CGC, including the revitalization of the Little Narrows gypsum quarry in Nova Scotia. The company said the quarry project is expected to increase gypsum supply along North America's Eastern Seaboard.
"This modern, sustainable manufacturing hub will help ensure builders have access to the materials they need to build the homes and infrastructure Canada depends on," CGC President Steve Youngblut said.
USG said the Wheatland facility incorporates technologies intended to reduce environmental impacts, including lower carbon emissions and water use, on-site solar generation and a goal of sending no manufacturing waste to landfills.
The company said producing wallboard closer to Western Canadian customers is expected to reduce transportation distances and related emissions.
