Armstrong Expands WoodWorks DesignFlex Ceiling Line
Armstrong adds WoodWorks Shapes panels with custom wood visuals, acoustics, and easy installation.

Armstrong World Industries has expanded its WoodWorks Shapes for DesignFlex ceiling portfolio with new Grille and Linear tegular panels, giving architects and designers more options to create custom geometric wood ceiling designs using standard components and lead times.
The new panels are available in four triangle and four parallelogram shapes, each offered with vertical or horizontal slats or planks. Designers can combine the shapes with 10 standard veneer finishes, including cherry, walnut, white maple, white oak, mahogany, sapele, fir, ash, and rift-cut white oak, to create biophilic interiors that emphasize the warmth and texture of natural wood.
According to Armstrong, the new WoodWorks Shapes panels are designed to simplify the creation of complex-looking ceiling layouts while maintaining installation efficiency. The panels integrate into the standard DesignFlex suspension system, allowing designers to mix wood shapes with other DesignFlex products, including Calla, Ultima, Lyra, and MetalWorks Shapes.
"The signature advantage of these solutions is the ability to mix and match shapes and warm wood finishes to achieve high-end biophilic aesthetics," said Richard Murlin, director of architectural wood systems at Armstrong. "Although the visual is bold and complex, components integrate seamlessly into a standard DesignFlex grid and offer standard lead times."
The new products are also supported through Armstrong's ProjectWorks Design and Pre-construction services, which provide complimentary layout assistance, drawing packages, and installation support throughout the project lifecycle.
For installation, the panels use standard 9/16-inch Suprafine XL heavy-duty main beams and Suprafine XM cross tees, with angle bracket connections that simplify 45-degree layouts.
WoodWorks Shapes for DesignFlex Grille and Linear panels can be paired with black acoustical infill panels that conceal the plenum while providing noise reduction coefficients (NRC) of up to 0.60. The panels also offer ASTM E84 Class A fire performance, meet California Department of Public Health low-emission standards, and are available with FSC-certified wood as a premium option. Armstrong says the products can contribute to indoor environmental quality goals, biophilic design strategies, and building certification programs such as WELL v2.
