The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission released a report entitled “Building for the Future: Advancing Equal Employment Opportunity in the Construction Industry.”
Just some surprising statistics to prepare the scene: in 2020, the Bureau of Labor stated approximately only 10 percent of the overall construction industry was women. By the end of 2022, after two long pandemic years, that number was only slightly higher at 11 percent.
As part of Women in Construction Week, the National Center for Construction Education & Research conducted interviews with 176 tradeswomen and analyzed 770 responses to a survey directed to women in the industry.
Felice Farber has been appointed as Executive Director of the Subcontractors Trade Association, breaking barriers as the first woman to hold this leadership role in the Association’s 66-year-old history. Farber will replace retiring Henry “Hank” Kita, who has served as STA’s Executive Director for nearly a decade.
