Gypsum Association releases revised application standard
The document's title and text have been revised to make clear that its recommendations pertain to all gypsum panel products used for interior wall and ceiling surfaces, and exterior soffits. The information in the new edition of the document remains applicable to gypsum board products including gypsum wallboard, gypsum ceiling board, and water-resistant gypsum board, and to gypsum panel products.
New to this edition is a section that provides guidance for applying gypsum panel products directly to existing wall and ceiling surfaces. Included in the specifications are requirements for the preparation of the existing surface, directions on the use of furring and shimming, and unique attachment requirements for applying gypsum panel products over damaged or uneven surfaces, with specifications for using nails, screws, staples, and adhesives.
