In 2005, CertainTeed’s parent company, Saint-Gobain, the world’s largest building products manufacturer, acquired BPB, the world’s largest gypsum manufacturer and the third largest U.S. manufacturer of suspended ceilings.
Beginning in January, BPB’s North American gypsum wallboard and ceiling businesses became part of the 103-year-old CertainTeed brand as CertainTeed Gypsum and CertainTeed Ceilings. At the same time, Saint-Gobain’s Ecophon and Decoustic ceiling product brands also became part of the CertainTeed Ceilings line.
“This is a watershed event for our company,” says Peter Dachowski, president and CEO of CertainTeed Corporation. “With the exception of our insulation business, historically, the CertainTeed brand has been known primarily for products used on residential, exterior applications. The addition of Ceilings and Gypsum to our brand family now gives us formidable strength for interior and commercial applications as well. The result is the most comprehensive line of building products in North America under one of the industry’s most respected brand names.””
The CertainTeed-branded line of building products now includes the following categories: ceilings, walls, residential and commercial roofing; vinyl, polymer and fiber cement siding and millwork; vinyl windows and patio doors; residential, commercial and mechanical insulation; fence, railing, deck; foundations; pipe and access covers.
