L&W, USG Help Build Homes in Missouri
USG Corp. and its distribution subsidiary, L&W Supply
Corporation, worked with producers of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” to build
seven homes for families in Joplin, Mo. The families lost their homes in the
tornado that struck Joplin on May 22.
USG donated materials to construct the homes, including various gypsum panels, joint treatments and tape, and cement board. L&W Supply provided specialty trucks and employee volunteers to deliver these to the job sites.
The Joplin branch worked with L&W Supply branches in Tulsa, Broken Arrow and Oklahoma City, Okla., Rogers, Ark., and Olathe, Kan., to obtain volunteer wallboard installers. Customers Green Country Interiors and Ketron Suspended Ceilings provided wallboard hangers to work on the homes.
“The courage and perseverance of the people of Joplin inspired us to get involved,” said Brendan Deely, president and chief executive officer, L&W Supply, and senior vice president, USG. “We are pleased to be able to help them rebuild during this difficult time.”
Angie Martin, branch supervisor at the Joplin location, and Steve Russell, branch manager, coordinated the company’s participation in the project.
“This is a perfect time to come together to help rebuild our city,” Martin said. “It is wonderful to work on this project and to have so much support from customers and our company. This has been an awesome experience.”
The Joplin families and their new homes were the subject of the 200th episode of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.” The broadcast date for the episode has not been set.
