Paul Bertram, FCSI, CDT, LEED AP, Director of Environment & Sustainability for Kingspan Insulated Panels, was a panelist representing manufacturers’ perspectives at the 2014 CSI Construct in Baltimore. This first-time panel session titled; Aspirations vs. Reality: Conflicts in Sustainable Construction had over 100 in attendance where Material Transparency, EPDs, HPDs and material evaluation and specification were discussed. The discussion focused on the crucial goals needed to improve sustainability in buildings. CSI Construct is the only national trade show and educational conference for commercial building teams that specify and source building products.

The second event, Material Transparency & Evaluation, was designed to help manufacturers and suppliers understand their reporting options for Environmental Product Declarations, Health Product Declarations, and Product Transparency Declarations.

Paul will again be a panelist at the Greenbuild International Conference and Expo Tuesday, October 21 from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM | MR 255 at the Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. This panel discussion, MH06 - I'm Just a Bill, will center on the bill of materials (BOM), a list of raw materials, assemblies, components, and quantities needed to manufacturer an end product. Topics will include how to define a product, as well as what disclosure mechanisms can tell about a product.

In addition to his role at Kingspan, Bertram has had an extensive career in the field of material evaluation, environment & sustainability and envelope first energy efficiency strategies. He is a former member of the LEED MR TAG and a LEED AP BD+C and a Fellow of the Construction Specifications Institute as well as an Institute Past President.
