The doubly curving roof edge on the Antonov Auditorium called for specific expertise to develop the light-gauge framing and connection system. Radius Track Corporation created an assembly that tied the roof and metal façade into a structurally cohesive system. That connection strategy resolved the diaphragm and movement of the roof and façade interface, simplified the number of components within the system and streamlined installation.
A parametric design process was used to define the unique geometric shape of each of the 226 custom CFS folded sheet metal assemblies and light-gauge trusses that formed the perimeter of the roof. A sequence of the unique light-gauge folded plate components that were CNC fabricated with data extracted from the iterative development process is shown on the left. Above right is a single CFS template laid flat — with magnet tabs to be folded along the cyan lines.
