The Steel Deck Institute announced the launch of its new and expanded website with added functionality and information that will make using steel floor and roof decks easier and more economical. The official launch date for the new website was Sept. 5.

The SDI believes the new website is easier to navigate, with increased functionality and improved content. The user interface for the new website is clean and intuitive, making finding information easier than the previous website.

Some new features of the website include:

  • Information on past and current research to improve the design of steel decks, including links to research and university researchers.
  • Links to magazine articles, webinars and other resources for steel decks.
  • Easier ordering or downloading of manuals, technical notes and other resources.
  • The SDI Standards are now organized by the edition of the International Building Code that references them.

The membership of the SDI has been working towards the launch of the new website for several months. “We have an informative story to tell about steel deck, and the new website is one way that we are reaching out to designers, constructors and building owners to make them aware of the advantages of steel deck,” stated Michael Martignetti, PE, president of the SDI.

Since its founding in 1939, the SDI has provided uniform industry standards for the engineering, design, manufacture and field usage of steel floor and roof decks. At present, the SDI has 24 deck-producing members and nine associate members. Member companies operate certified deck manufacturing facilities located throughout the United States, while associate members are manufacturers of products related to the use of steel decks. The mission of the SDI is to promote the advantages of using steel roof decks and floor decks along with providing guidance in the proper design and use of steel decks.
