Armstrong’s New DynaMax Plus Structural Ceiling Grid System Allows Longer Spans

The system provides an ideal suspension platform for cable trays, partitions, hot and cold aisle containment barriers, and other equipment in data centers

Armstrong World Industries has introduced DynaMax Plus, a structural ceiling grid system that combines the accessibility and flexibility benefits of the existing Armstrong DynaMax grid with greater load-carrying capacity. It also provides greater construction efficiency due to the capability of 6-foot and 8-foot rod drop spacing, compared to typical 4-foot spacing.

The new grid system offers a structural solution to suspending mid-span loads up to 1,090 pounds at L/360 and up to 1,800 pounds for static-point loads. In addition, the system’s increased threaded rod drop spacing reduces installation time and materials and saves money by eliminating up to half of the threaded rod drops needed for 4-foot hanging spans.

Fully Accessible System

Available in 2 feet x 2 feet, 2 feet x 4 feet, 4 feet x 4 feet and other module sizes, the system is fully accessible, allowing for future expansions and upgrades. Cross tees not bearing any load are removable for plenum access without compromising the structural integrity of the system.

The DynaMax Plus structural grid can be used selectively in project layouts where heavy loads need to be suspended from the grid. Conventional acoustical grid and panels can be easily integrated with the structural grid where load carrying is not required. This creates an easy and smart approach to providing strength where needed.

Reduces Installation Time

The DynaMax Plus structural grid is installed using the same process as the existing DynaMax grid with notched grid members. The 6-foot spacing allows for direct attachment to steel joists or pre-cast concrete tees. In addition, spanning 6 feet or more eliminates the need for slotted strut channels at the deck/roof level and creates more space for critical MEP components.

The new grid system is part of the Armstrong Sustain portfolio of products that meet the most stringent industry sustainability compliance standards today. In addition to data centers, other applications for the structural grid system range from laboratories and clean rooms to broadcast studios and casinos.
