The International Code Council (ICC) announced the commencement of its 45th annual Building Safety Month, a global initiative held each May to raise awareness about the importance of building codes and the professionals who ensure safe, sustainable, and resilient structures. This year's campaign theme, “Game On!”, encourages individuals and communities to actively engage in building safety practices.

“It’s remarkable how much the world has changed since this campaign began back in 1980,” said Code Council Board President David Spencer, CBO. “Forty-five years later, the mission of Building Safety Month, the work of building safety professionals, and the critical role that building codes play in protecting public safety are more important than ever.”

Building Safety Month 2025 features weekly themes designed to educate and inspire:

  • Week 1 (May 1–3): The Warm Up

  • Week 2 (May 4–10): Build Your Offense

  • Week 3 (May 11–17): Build Your Defense

  • Week 4 (May 18–24): The Starting Lineup

  • Week 5 (May 25–31): Going Into Overtime

Each week focuses on different aspects of building safety, from understanding the basics to advocating for change and celebrating successes.

The ICC invites individuals, families, businesses, and communities to participate by:

  • Visiting www.buildingsafetymonth.org for resources and event planning materials.

  • Issuing proclamations to declare May 2025 as Building Safety Month.

  • Joining the conversation on social media using hashtags #BuildingSafetyMonth2025 and #BuildingSafety365.

  • Utilizing the promotional toolkit available on the ICC website.

The American Gas Association serves as the foundation sponsor for Building Safety Month 2025, demonstrating a shared commitment to public safety and community resilience.
