ClarkDietrich Raises the Bar on Sustainability
ClarkDietrich reported a nearly 70 percent reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions from 2023 to 2024 by using renewable energy certificates and advancing its long-term sustainability goals.
In its most recent greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions report, ClarkDietrich, the nation’s largest manufacturer of cold-formed steel framing products, has reported a near-70% reduction in its total Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions from 2023 to 2024.
“This year’s results reflect not only our commitment to cutting emissions, but also our responsibility to help the building industry move toward a more sustainable future,” said Adam Shoemaker, business development director for ClarkDietrich.
Helping to reduce the company’s impact was the purchase of third-party Green-e Certified renewable energy certificates to match 100 percent of ClarkDietrich’s Scope 2 market-based emissions for 2024. As the only accepted way to track and account for renewable energy use in the U.S. grid system—which is mixed and does not offer the ability to separate renewable electrons from fossil ones—RECs build demand for more clean energy on the grid. ClarkDietrich’s RECs include 100 percent wind energy, traceable to Bent Tree Wind Farm in Hartland, Minn.
“RECs are a practical and immediate step to reducing the emissions associated with our electricity use and serve as a stepping stone toward our bolder vision of onsite renewable energy and long-term energy efficiency upgrades,” said James Sforza, sustainability architectural representative for ClarkDietrich. “RECs allow us to reduce our environmental impact today by supporting clean power generation—in a traceable and verifiable way—while building toward more permanent solutions for tomorrow.”
By reducing its Scope 1 and 2 emissions, ClarkDietrich is making it easier for architects, specifiers and building developers to procure lower-embodied carbon products, reducing their own Scope 3 emissions and meet Environmental, Social and Governance targets.
ClarkDietrich’s 2024 GHG emissions report was conducted by a third party, WAP Sustainability Consulting, and measures emissions from the company’s 2024 fiscal year (April 1, 2024–March 31, 2025).
