The Air Barrier Association of America held its 2026 conference in Minneapolis, bringing together contractors, consultants, manufacturers and building envelope professionals to discuss advances in air barrier systems, energy efficiency and sustainable construction practices.
The conference featured keynote presentations, technical workshops and panel discussions focused on building envelope science, evolving code requirements and best practices for air barrier installation. Attendees also participated in networking events and explored new products and technologies aimed at improving building performance and airtightness.
A major focus of the event was field application and quality assurance. Training sessions covered installation techniques, project auditing and compliance considerations, including a full day of hands-on instruction. Conference organizers reported that 45 attendees participated in the training program.
Attendance reached a record high, with many first-time participants attending the conference. According to attendee feedback, many considered the event one of the strongest ABAA conferences to date because of the quality and technical depth of the presentations.
Oak Ridge National Laboratory conducted a WUFI course in conjunction with the conference. Researchers also presented a project demonstrating the use of imaging technology to identify air leakage in building assemblies, highlighting practical diagnostic tools for contractors and envelope consultants.
The week concluded with committee chair training sessions and ABAA committee meetings focused on future initiatives and industry collaboration.
ABAA also announced that its 2027 conference will be held jointly with the Rainscreen Association in North America in Cleveland, Ohio, on May 11-12, 2027. Committee meetings will follow the conference.
