National Gypsum CEO Earns State's Top Honor
National Gypsum CEO Tom Nelson receives North Carolina's highest civilian honor for leadership.

National Gypsum Chairman, President and CEO Thomas C. Nelson has been awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, North Carolina's highest civilian honor, recognizing decades of business leadership and service to communities across the state.
The award honors individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to North Carolina through their professional achievements and civic involvement. Nelson has spent nearly 40 years helping shape the state's business landscape while supporting initiatives that have strengthened communities throughout the Carolinas.
In addition to leading one of the nation's largest gypsum manufacturers, Nelson has played an influential role in several prominent organizations. He currently serves as chair of the Charlotte Executive Leadership Council and previously chaired the Charlotte Regional Business Alliance, formerly the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce. He has also served on the board of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond.
Nelson's impact extends beyond business. As a longtime board member of Atrium Health, now Advocate Health, he chaired the health system's board during its merger with Advocate Health, helping oversee the formation of one of the nation's largest nonprofit health systems. The transition positioned the organization to expand healthcare access and services across multiple states.
National Gypsum officials said the recognition reflects Nelson's longstanding commitment to economic development, community leadership and improving quality of life throughout the region.
The Order of the Long Leaf Pine is among North Carolina's most distinguished honors and is traditionally presented to individuals whose careers have made lasting contributions to the state through exceptional public service, business leadership or community involvement.
For the wall and ceiling industry, Nelson's recognition highlights the influence manufacturing leaders can have beyond the jobsite. Under his leadership, National Gypsum has remained a key supplier to the construction industry while continuing to invest in innovation, workforce development and the communities where it operates.
The company congratulated Nelson on the achievement, calling the honor a reflection of the values and leadership that have defined his career and National Gypsum's commitment to serving both the construction industry and the communities it calls home.
