Armstrong's Leader Earns STEP Ahead Honors 2026
Waltemyer recognized for leadership, workforce growth, and energy-saving ceiling innovation.

Armstrong World Industries reports that Alexandra Waltemyer, director of energy saving ceilings, has been named a 2026 STEP Ahead Awards honoree by the Manufacturing Institute. The program, led by the National Association of Manufacturers, recognizes leadership and workforce impact across the manufacturing sector.
For contractors and specifiers, the recognition ties directly to product development and labor pipeline issues influencing interior finishes. Leadership within ceiling systems manufacturing affects product availability, innovation cycles and support for assemblies increasingly tied to energy codes and owner sustainability targets.
Waltemyer oversees Armstrong’s energy-saving ceilings portfolio, including systems incorporating phase change materials. These assemblies are designed to moderate indoor temperature swings, which can reduce HVAC loads and support operational carbon reduction goals. For installers, PCM-integrated ceiling panels introduce considerations around handling, storage conditions and coordination with mechanical systems to realize intended performance.
During her tenure, Waltemyer has contributed to workforce expansion and product line growth. The company reports more than 20 new roles created within the energy-saving ceilings segment, with potential for additional hiring. Labor availability at the manufacturing level can influence lead times and pricing stability for suspended ceiling systems and specialty panels.
Programs like the STEP Ahead Awards highlight workforce development as a core issue for the trades. For wall and ceiling contractors, upstream investment in talent and leadership can translate into more consistent supply chains, better technical support and continued advancement of code-compliant ceiling assemblies.
Waltemyer is scheduled to be recognized at the 2026 STEP Ahead Awards Gala on April 23 in Washington, D.C.
