The city's west side will soon be home to a $30 million facility that will provide free skilled trades training for up to 1,500 students per year — and they'll earn wages and benefits while they learn.
At a Sept. 17 press conference, Detroit City Council President Pro Tem Mary Sheffield proposed a measure that would require all city-funded demolition and construction work to be performed by at least 51% city residents, the Detroit Free Press reported.
