Focus on Windows and Doors

March 19, 2007
This month's product focus features windows and doors.

Simonton

StormBreaker Plus Sliding Impact vinyl doors are designed for coastal homes where hurricanes and severe weather can be a problem. The doors are made with one pane of tempered glass and one pane of impact-resistant laminated glass that enables them to stand up to fierce weather conditions. Much like a car windshield, when these doors are struck by flying objects, the glass is more resistant to breaking. If the flying object fractures the glass, the laminated glass will remain intact within the window frame and protect the home from becoming pressurized. StormBreaker doors come in two- and three-panel configurations and range in size from 5 feet by 6 feet, 8 inches to 12 feet by 8 feet. Nine stock sizes are available with tan or white vinyl frames.

Sill-Rite

A new line of solid vinyl window sills from Sill-Rite have been designed to help protect window sill area from damage caused by moisture, condensation and leaks. Available to builders and remodelers, Sill-Rite sills are completely prefabricated and finished, allowing building industry professionals to save time and labor on the job. The PVC sills resist water, mold, stains and warping. Each sill is prefinished on all edges and designed to require no priming or painting.

Simpson Door Company

This new door features an ornamental clear glass design with the word ‘Laundry’ above a vintage washtub and washboard on a frosted glass background, allowing homeowners to integrate the laundry room into the home’s overall interior design. Simpson laundry room doors are available in 1-3/8 inches and 1-3/4 inch thicknesses and can be specified in widths ranging from 2 feet to 3 feet 6 inches and in heights of 6 feet 8 inches, 7 feet and 8 feet. The doors are available in Douglas fir, western hemlock, American red oak, maple and cherry, and can be ordered in virtually any wood species from Simpson’s Custom Door Manufacturing Facility.

The Bilco Company

Constructed of vinyl for durability and corrosion resistance, the window assembly is a two-piece system consisting of a pour-in-place buck and a snap-in window unit. The buck is reinforced for strength and support to accommodate foundation pouring and incorporates weather-stripping to withstand air, dust and moisture infiltration. The window features a sleek, fully welded vinyl frame for added durability and easy cleaning with soap and water. It also utilizes Intercept Warm-Edge technology to reduce condensation around the window’s perimeter, creating a thermal barrier to reduce heat loss. An International Residential Code (IRC3000)-compliant basement egress solution, the ScapeWEL Window Well System consists of the ScapeVIEW Series 6000 Foundation Window System and a high-density polyethylene ScapeWEL Window Well.

Visions Windows & Doors

These vinyl windows and patio doors incorporate sloped sills and stepped exterior frames to provide the character of architectural wood windows. All Visions 3000 products are made from advanced select PVC containing high-impact acrylic modifiers and UV stabilizers that protect the vinyl from fading due to the elements. Window offerings include casement, awning, single and double hung, single and triple slider, direct set and custom-sized windows. Patio door styles include hinged and sliding systems. Patio doors have heavy-duty aluminum stiffeners in each door panel to provide greater structural integrity, rigidity and security. The all-vinyl sill has an internal weep system that diverts water away from the home. Standard glazing is 3/4-inch insulated glass with a Real Warm Edge Spacer system; a wide range of advanced glazing options exist.

CECO Door Products

ElectroLynx products provide pre-wired, precise turnkey entry systems for architects and contractors and eliminate delays from on-site wiring difficulties. ElectroLynx doors and hardware are pre-wired at the factory using standardized Molex connectors and uniform wire colors before shipping to a specific job site. With ElectroLynx products, installation time is reduced and the job is done correctly. The snap-together connections simplify on-site installation. There are no confusing diagrams and the only hardwiring is from the power source to the opening. Making an addition or changing an electrified ElectroLynx entry system requires no drilling through concrete or mortar thanks to pre-wiring and standardized connectors.

Weather Shield Legacy Series

The accordion-style door stacks one panel on top of the next as it slides across the overhead track. Subtle handles at each hinge location aid in opening the door effortlessly. When closed, the large door is held securely in place with head and foot bolts on each panel, and a five-point locking system on the service panel. The hinges, handles, and head and foot bolts are available in three attractive finishes including the popular oil-rubbed bronze, stainless steel (brushed chrome) and bright brass. Dual bulb weather stripping encases the door ensuring a weather-tight seal against air and water infiltration. The latest addition to Weather Shield’s premium Legacy Series, the door is available in standard widths up to eight panels wide for openings as large as 23 feet. The Bi-fold Patio Door delivers durable construction, premium aesthetics and wide-open views. The 3-foot standard door panels are 2-1/4 inches thick with Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL) at their core for greater structural integrity.

Pella Corporation

The company announces its expansion of the Architect Series line of wood windows and patio doors with three new wood options - mahogany, alder and Douglas fir. Pella still offers its traditional pine product as well. Whether remodeling a current space, building a new home or embarking on a new addition for home or business, the Pella Architect Series collection of windows and patio doors meets the needs of those looking for the ultimate in architectural detail and flexibility for standard or custom projects. Windows and doors are available with virtually endless design options - including unique shapes and sizes, unlimited exterior colors and standard and custom grille patterns.
