Vapor-permeable Air Barrier

Sto Corp.

The new StoGuard Gold Coat TA is the trowel applied version of Gold Coat. The trowelable, vapor-permeable air barrier membrane is used in StoTherm ci systems.  The product is troweled directly onto vertical above-grade wall sheathing and concrete masonry. It also functions as a waterproof air barrier when combined with StoGuard joint and rough opening treatment. The product comes in five-gallon pails, is ready-mixed for easy application, is water-based, and optimized for CI. For more information, visit stocorp.com.

Acrylic Air Barrier

Kemper System America

Wall Guardian FW-100A is a liquid-applied fibered acrylic air barrier that also acts as a water/weather barrier and vapor retarder. The engineered system is designed to resist air and water infiltration, saving energy and preventing moisture build-up that can lead to mildew and mold. It can be quickly applied to building material surfaces with a heavy-duty sprayer, roller or brush. The product offers unified substrate protection, even on curved or other unconventionally shaped walls. The water-based coating is a very-low VOC product and meets LEED intent at 25 percent recycled content. The applied coating is also Class A fire rated. To learn more, visit kempersystem.net.  Volcanic Rainscreen Product

Johns Manville

The CladStone Water & Fire Block Insulation is a noncombustible continuous insulation mineral wool product. This premium mineral wool product allows for the effective drainage of water from an exterior wall cavity system, while offering exceptional thermal efficiency, fire resistance and acoustical performance. The addition of this new product further enhances the breadth and depth of JM’s complete line of insulation products by providing the market with a rain screen product that works with a variety of exterior cladding systems. The product is specifically manufactured for performance in cavity wall and rainscreen applications. Made from basalt, a volcanic rock, it is naturally noncombustible, moisture repellent, non-deteriorating, and will not mildew or support corrosion. To learn more, visit jm.com.

Enhanced Rainscreen and Ventilation Mats

Stuc-O-Flex International

The company has announced performance enhancements to its WaterWay Rainscreen and Ventilation Mats. The new generation of Filter Fabric functions like an extra layer of housewrap surpassing water holdout requirements for weather resistive barriers, while providing a perm-rating in excess of 200. This fabric also offers the industry’s highest level of UV resistance allowing extended installation time. For more information, visit stucoflex.com.

Built-in Rainscreen

Castia Stone

Castia Stone is a lightweight concrete cast-stone cladding that uses a bracketing system for mortarless application to create a built-in rainscreen allowing for ventilation and drainage. Installable all year round and in all weather, you can get a healthy and stunning new look sooner than one thinks. Visit castiastone.com for more info.

Two-tier Air Barrier System

VaporShield

The Two Component VaproAirBarrier System allows for complete air barrier continuity with only two components. This fast and efficient system uses only easy-to-install WrapShield SA Self-Adhered membrane and VaproLiqui-Flash to create a vapor permeable, water resistant seal within the building envelope. The product costs an average of 30 to 50 product less than leading competitors by eliminating the need for additional materials such as joint/corner treatments, tapes, adhesives, and spray equipment. All of the components in the product are free of VOCs, toxins and red list chemicals making materials safe for handling and repeated exposure. The self-adhering air barrier sheet membrane does not require primers thereby eliminating the need for respirators or special overalls. Scraps and release paper are easily recycled or tossed in on-site refuse containers for fast clean-up. For more information, visit vaproshield.com.

Elastomeric Waterproof Membrane

Parex USA

WeatherSeal Spray & Roll-On is a ready-to-use, 100-percent acrylic elastomeric waterproof membrane and air barrier that can be rolled, brushed or spray applied. It can be used to treat wall joints and flash rough openings with the use of embedded fabric. It is extremely flexible as it can bridge cracks and accommodate small movements up to 1/32 inch (.8 mm). The product is code approved for use under EIFS, stucco or any code approved cladding (ESR 2045) and is an ABAA certified air barrier designed to maximize energy efficiency. For more information, visit parex.com/products.pl.

Drainable WRB

Fortifiber Building Systems

WeatherSmart Drainable is a scientifically-advanced weather-resistive barrier incorporating patented technology that delivers exceptional drainage performance.

The product takes it to the next level by adding patented technology that channels liquid away from the wall assembly with greater than 95 percent efficiency. With a perm rating of 15, the WRB design provides architects and builders with the ideal level of vapor permeability. Protected by a 10-year limited warranty, it is available in 5-, 9- and 10-foot wide rolls by 125 lineal feet. For information, visit fortifiber.com.

UV-resistant WRB

Benjamin Obdyke

The FlatWrap UV is specially designed for use with architectural designs that incorporate open joint claddings. When used in conjunction with a rainscreen, it provides bulk water drainage, vapor permeability and durability. The product features a high performance tri-laminate design with superior UV resistance versus typical weather resistant barriers. In addition, the product has a vapor permeability of 35 perms, and has been proven to increase tear and wind load resistance for jobs over 40 feet. Available in 500 square feet rolls, the product can help significantly reduce both material and labor costs. The product does not require seams to be taped and its black color makes it virtually invisible in an open wall assembly, enhancing aesthetic appeal. For more information, visit benjaminobdyke.com.

Drainage Mat for Wall Systems

Keene Building Products

Driwall Rainscreen is a drainage mat for exterior wall systems. The product eliminates incidental moisture problems in most exterior veneer applications. The full-wall entangled net product rolls over the weather-resistant barrier to separate it from the exterior veneer. The airspace that DriwalI Rainscreen creates increases airflow through the wall cavity, allowing the wall to breathe and stay dry.  For more information, visit keenebuilding.com.
