Product Focus on Rainscreen

March 31, 2021

Rainscreen Girt

Knight Wall Systems

ThermaZee is a rainscreen girt that reduces thermal bridging, with thermal performance values more than 90 percent effective, dramatically increasing the rainscreen wall assembly performance. It provides specifiers and designers the simplicity of what they already know—Z-furring—with code-compliant performance and reduced thermal bridging that rivals modern thermally isolated clip and rail systems. The product employs a specially designed, hollow, thermal isolation strip attached to its back leg. In addition to the thermal break provided by the strip, the web's unique punch pattern has a substantial reduction in metal penetrating the insulation. Additionally, the girt is reinforced with notched bends and stiffening lips around the punches for extra strength. For more information, visit knightwallsystems.com.

Rainscreen Panel

Steni

Steni Vision panels are made of stone composite and can be used for both exterior and interior walls in commercial, institutional and industrial building projects. The design options are almost unlimited. The range is delivered in 14 standard designs and three gloss variations, and the company’s Custom enables a façade designer to incorporate custom graphics printed directly onto the panels to suit the building or environment. The panels require minimal maintenance and have a 60-year functional warranty.

The panel advantages include:

  • Pre-cut formats
  • Low-cost durability
  • 60-year warranty
  • Reduced carbon footprint
  • Easy cleaning
  • Impact resistance
  • Frost and water impermeability

For more information, visit Steni.com.

Glass Rainscreen System

Sto Corp.

StoVentec Glass Rainscreen system combines proven hygrothermal performance with the beauty and allure of glass. Taken together, the solution provides superior weather tightness, thermal performance, fire protection and the kind of compelling aesthetic designers seek. The StoVentec Glass Panel is made of opaque back-painted or back-printed glass that is permanently bonded to a proprietary carrier board. The prefabricated glass facade panels are manufactured to order in custom sizes and a range of colors for a unique look that is engineered to turn heads, while being fast and simple to install on the job site. Rainscreen Self-adhered

VaproShield

Rainscreen Self-adhered is the company’s newest version of installer friendly WRB/AB materials. The product combines the WRB and air barrier functions of a fully adhered, primer less, vapor permeable sheet material with a built in drainage cavity for an all-inclusive installation. The product is available in either a 3 or a 7 millimeter depth drainage mesh, in widths of 29½-inch with a 2-inch selvedge. The mesh detaches easily for method integration of window flashing, pipe and conduit penetration sealing. It is suitable for many types of cladding components and provides the necessary drainage and ventilation functions required for today’s energy efficient structures. The product can be installed on multiple sheathing materials including OSB, plywood, gypsum sheathing, CMU or concrete. For more information, visit vaproshield.com.

Code Changes Mandate Rainscreen

Stuc-O-Flex

This year’s 2021 ICC and IBC made important changes to section 2510 Lathing and Furring for Stucco. Changes apply to stucco installed over wood-based sheathings in moist and marine climate zones. The mandate requires a drainage material minimum 3/16 inch (4 millimeters) in depth, applied to the exterior side of the water-resistive barrier. WaterWay Rainscreen & Ventilation Mats accommodate this directive by creating space for drainage and promoting circulation through convection. From Boston to San Francisco, the rainscreen’s are endorsed by numerous distinguished building enclosure specialists in North America. Many believe, “Rainscreens offer such amazing redundancy and are so forgiving every building envelope consultant should make it their number-one recommendation.”

Thinner Exterior Wall Drainage Mat

Keene Building Products

Driwall Rainscreen 013-1 is a thinner drainage mat for exterior wall systems. It is the same rainscreen product that the company provides but now can fit thinner application needs. The entangled net product eliminates incidental moisture problems in most exterior veneer applications, including stucco, manufactured stone, and plank siding. Its benefits include:

  • Drainage of excess moisture and ventilation in one product
  • Lightweight easy to handle and install
  • Simple installation with mechanical staple hammer
  • Polymer core resistant to most known corrosive chemicals, including solvents
  • Wide rolls for fewer seams
  • Core absorbs and releases no moisture
  • Provides no source for the promotion of mold, mildew, or bacteria
