Super Stud Building Products, Inc. announced Feb. 13 that Don Allen, P.E., S.E., LEED AP, who has served as Super Stud’s Director of Engineering since 2014, will become Director of Technical Services for the Association of the Wall and Ceiling Industry. “We are happy that Don is going to the AWCI to help grow our industry,” said Ray Frobosilo, Super Stud’s founder and President. “We need Don’s level of expertise in that position. Although it will be difficult to lose Don, we feel his understanding of the intricacies of the steel framing marketplace will be a great asset to the industry.”

During Don’s tenure at Super Stud, he has worked with the Super Stud team to grow and augment their specialty clip system, to design and develop their patented SuperMAXX floor joist system, to implement a new design for their RC1 resilient channel and provide technical services and support to Super Stud’s customers and sales teams. Don spearheaded Super Stud’s ‘made in USA’ and sustainability efforts, including reducing steel use and waste, documenting local sourcing, material traceability and decreasing embodied carbon.

Don will continue to maintain a close relationship with Super Stud’s Technical Services Manager, Susanne Allen, his wife of more than thirty years. “Working with Don and Susanne has been great for Super Stud, with their combined experience in engineering, marketing and software development,” Frobosilo said. “We look forward to continued support from Don via AWCI while leveraging Susanne’s talents in her new role with the company.”

Born into a family of construction professionals, Susanne Allen’s first foray into cold-formed steel was in 1993 when she served as general contractor for their home, which has steel floor joists and both structural and non-structural walls. Since that project, Susanne has provided support at Super Stud and affiliated companies by developing and maintaining the Super Stud website and designing Super Stud advertising and marketing materials. During Susanne’s tenure, the Super Stud Submittal builder was developed, along with an optimization tool called JoistSelector. JoistSelector is an online tool that allows both seasoned architects as well as first-time builders to see the most economical way to frame floors. This also helps the Super Stud sales team see the value and strength of the SuperMAXX joist product line.

In early spring 2023, Susanne and the Super Stud team will release a new tool called Stud Selector. “With the growth in the mid-rise market for load-bearing steel-framed wall systems, we see Stud Selector as a great tool for our customers,” Frobosilo said. “We are looking forward to adding this tool to our suite of products and services for the construction professional.”
