The Texas Lathing & Plasterers Contractors Association hosted its annual convention June 8-10 at Horseshoe Bay Resort, located approximately 50 miles northwest of Austin. The event brought together contractors, manufacturers and industry professionals for networking, educational sessions, association business meetings, a tabletop trade show and social activities.
The convention began June 8 with a welcome mixer at the resort's Marina Bar, providing attendees an opportunity to reconnect with colleagues and industry partners.

Activities continued June 9 with a golf scramble on the resort's Slick Rock 18-hole golf course. The tournament drew strong participation from association members and concluded with lunch, a raffle and prize presentations.
Later that afternoon, attendees gathered for the tabletop trade show, where manufacturer members showcased products and met with contractors, customers and fellow industry professionals.
The day's events concluded with the Awards Banquet, where Executive Director Eddie McCormick shared association updates and announced a historic leadership milestone. Tina Cannedy was named the association's first female president. During this presentation, McCormick also asked for a moment's silence for those members that had passed: Julie Deppner, Kathy Riddle and Ed Hiller.
During the banquet, the association also recognized David Mouton, vice president of Tobin & Rooney Inc. Mouton oversees the company's estimating and project management operations and currently serves on the TLPCA Board of Directors.
Founded in 1938 by James T. Tobin and George Rooney, Tobin & Rooney specializes in lath, plaster and fireproofing. The company has contributed to numerous landmark projects throughout the Houston area, including the Bank of America Building, Chase Tower, Allen Center III and IV, Cullen Center, Jones Hall, Alley Theatre, the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts and the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart. Tobin & Rooney is a founding member of both TLPCA and the Texas Bureau of Lathing & Plastering and remains active in several industry organizations, including AWCI, AGC, ASA and Construction Career Collaborative.

The convention's final day opened with breakfast and additional opportunities for attendees to visit exhibitors. General sessions followed under the leadership of outgoing President Eric Kihl of Southwest Lath & Plaster.
Larry Williams, CEO of MEMCO, opened the educational program with a presentation focused on industry best practices and common workplace challenges. Jason Moyer, senior vice president of sales for Weatherization Partners, followed with a product update on continuous insulation systems for stucco applications.
After lunch, Trey Harris of QUIKRETE and Michael Linzmaier of CEF discussed the association's Workforce Development Program. The initiative introduces high school students across Texas to careers in the plastering trades and broader construction industry through school visits, career fairs and trade-focused educational programs.
The initiative plays a critical role in introducing the next generation to careers in the plastering trades through a collaborative effort among several association members. Participating contractors include Precision Development, a specialty stucco, EIFS, stone and cast stone subcontractor founded in 1989. The company's project manager, Bruce Honore III, was featured in Walls & Ceilings’ July 2024 issue. Joining him are Eric Kihl of Southwest Lath & Plaster and Flavio Ronzani of RONPARCO. Together, these industry leaders partner with the association and QUIKRETE to conduct hands-on demonstrations that give students a firsthand look at opportunities within the plastering industry.
The convention concluded with a silent auction and an evening celebration, providing members another opportunity to connect and recognize the strength of the TLPCA community.
Looking ahead, the association announced that its 2027 convention will be held at Choctaw Casino & Resort in Durant, Okla.
