Saint-Gobain’s New Georgia Ceilings Plant Saves 50 Million Pounds of CO2 Emissions

Saint-Gobain North America, through its building products subsidiary CertainTeed LLC, announced the opening of its newest CertainTeed Architectural facility in Conyers, Georgia, on July 20. The plant will be co-located with finishing partner Quality Powder Coating, allowing Saint-Gobain to drastically reduce the distance its products must travel to finalize production, lowering its CO2 emissions by over 50 million pounds per year.

The announcement comes as the company continues to implement its global Grow and Impact strategy, which includes ambitious environmental sustainability goals, such as achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. A sister site to CertainTeed Architectural’s existing facility in nearby Norcross, Georgia, the Conyers site will produce CertainTeed’s High-Profile Series, Terminus and HeartFelt lines. Currently, the Norcross facility ships its products to QPC’s location in Dallas for coating and finishing. By co-locating CertainTeed and QPC together in Conyers later this year, Saint-Gobain will save over 211,000 truck miles per year, which equates to a reduction of over 50 million pounds of CO2 emissions annually.

“Our new facility in Conyers will create new jobs in the Atlanta area while also helping our company to drastically reduce its carbon footprint and environmental impact,” said Jay Bachmann, vice president and general manager of CertainTeed Interior Products Group. “We look forward to partnering even more closely with QPC in Georgia to fulfill our purpose - ‘To Make the World a Better Home.’”

“QPC is excited to unveil our new facility in Conyers, Georgia, later this year,” said George Lebus, CEO of QPC. “This expansion represents a significant milestone, enabling us to strengthen our presence and better serve our customers in this dynamic region. At QPC, we remain committed to the growth and success of our architectural finishes business and will continue to explore additional regional expansion opportunities throughout the United States. Moreover, as we open our doors, we bring with us a wave of job opportunities, contributing to the growth and prosperity of the Atlanta area. With a firm commitment to sustainability, our new facility will play a pivotal role in reducing CO2 emissions by minimizing transportation distances for materials we process. At QPC, we believe in embracing growth, fostering innovation and making a positive impact in the communities we operate in.”

This announcement follows several other recent investments that Saint-Gobain has undertaken in Georgia:

  • Earlier this year, Saint-Gobain announced the opening of a new CertainTeed Corners facility in Social Circle, creating new jobs and expanding its already robust presence in the community.
  • In May 2022, CertainTeed announced a $100 million expansion of its roofing facility in Peachtree City, more than doubling production capacity and reducing CO2 emissions.
  • Also in May 2022, Saint-Gobain ADFORS announced a $28 million investment at its facility in Dublin, which will lead to the creation of 400 new jobs.

With over 200 manufacturing locations in United States and Canada, every current and future member of the company’s team plays a vital role in achieving its sustainability goals. A current list of job openings at all Saint-Gobain locations, including throughout Georgia, can be found on the company’s careers website.
