In this episode of “If Walls Could Talk,” John Wyatt, editor of Walls & Ceilings speaks with Tom Harris of Tom Harris PUR Consulting about February’s show in sunny Daytona Beach, Fla., the Spray Foam Convention & Expo. This month, we focus primarily on how the SFPA event went down.

John Wyatt talks with Tom Harris about the record-breaking success of February’s Spray Foam Convention & Expo in Daytona Beach. Harris highlights impressive attendance, packed breakout sessions, and the strong industry interest in spray foam education, with presentation materials expected to be available online soon.

“In a word – record-breaking,” said Harris. “Here’s some figures from the SPFA show: 288 professional Certification exams conducted; 83 field exams conducted; 2,038 registered attendees; 31 attendees became new members of SPFA during the show and; the tradeshow had 120 exhibitors. The spray foam industry consultants had a booth and I’ve never seen it so busy.”

The SPFA runs five-10 presentations at the same time to give the audience a variety of topics to choose from. Each are about an hour long and there’s four sessions each day of the show. They run the breakout session in the morning and the exhibit hall in the afternoon.  

“I’ve made dozens of presentations for the SPFA over the years and I can expect around 20 attendees to a breakout session. This year, I did four different presentations and averaged around 25 attendees, but one of them had 102. Standing room only—I guess everyone was interested in the topic.”

The SPFA should be posting the slide decks from the breakout sessions on their website (likely for members only). Harris will be adding four lectures to the Lets Talk PUR.com website in the Continuing Education Campus which anyone can access.
