Architecture Week unites and activates educators, community leaders, and architects to inspire and elevate the role of architecture in K-12 classrooms. Architecture Week fosters design thinking in students while equipping educators and architects with the tools and resources needed to ignite young minds and spark a passion for architecture.

Research indicates that incorporating architecture and design into K–12 education not only enhances problem-solving abilities, nurtures creativity, and strengthens teamwork, but also paves the way for exciting career opportunities in the field. Through Architecture Week, AIA invites architects to connect with educators to discover how teaching architectural concepts can unlock new ways to engage and inspire students.

Discover the ways to get involved:
• Interactive learning tools: Access hands-on classroom activities like AIA’s Climate Action Design Challenge, The House That She Built program, and Build the Block, a virtually guided design challenge.
• School visits: Connect local schools with professional architects who can spark curiosity in your students through workshops and mentoring sessions.
• Student Challenges: Join fun, kid-friendly challenges such as neighborhood sketching tours and design competitions.
• Civic recognition: Tap AIA’s guide to getting your city’s mayor to recognize Architecture Week with an official proclamation.
• Donate: Financially support AIA chapter K-12 programs.

Architecture Week highlights:
The Boston Society of Architecture (BSA) successfully lobbied Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, to establish April 13-19, 2025, as Architecture Week with an official proclamation. The BSA will also host a 2-day design challenge for Boston area high school students interested in exploring architecture and design. The days align with Architecture Week (April 18) and the AIA Conference on Architecture & Design (June 5), the largest annual gathering of architects.

AIA New York is supporting the efforts of firm OQ2D in hosting a sold-out workshop to local freshmen and sophomore high school students focused on learning about new environmentally friendly building material and architectural and engineering design.

AIA Fort Worth established a new K-12 outreach committee, launched in 2025. Their inaugural activities will center on Architecture Week, with a Box City family workshop and a curated exhibition featuring studio work from high school students.

AIA Kansas City established four mayoral proclamations in local municipalities. They are hosting their first Architecture Week, visiting schools at all grade levels for hands-on activities and presentations.

The Architecture Foundation of Oregon launched a free virtual architecture and design camp for 3rd-5th graders entitled, "Be a Changemaker: How design transforms our communities" focused on adaptively reusing a building, train, park, or bridge for a new community purpose.

Visit aia.org/architecture-week to learn more about how to get involved.
