The winners of ATAS International’s 2024 Project of the Year competition were announced on May 5th. First, second, and third place winners in each of seven categories were chosen by an independent panel of judges, comprised of ATAS advisory board members. The seven award categories included: commercial roofs, commercial walls, residential roofs, residential walls, accents, sustainable, and interiors.

Catherine Commons in Ithaca, NY received the first-place honors for commercial roofs.  CastleTop metal shingles in Hemlock Green .032 aluminum were installed on both the roof and some of the walls on this project.  The architect was ikon.5 architects, and the shingles were installed by CF Evans Company.  The distributor was Erie Materials.

For the commercial walls category, La Nube STEAM Discovery Center in El Paso, TX took first place. Versa-Seam panels in .040 aluminum, Ascot White, Bone White, and a custom color white, were used to clad this children’s museum.  ATAS’ 1-1/2” Field-Lok panels in 24-gauge steel in Titanium were used on the roof of this project.  The building was designed by Snøhetta Architects and the installer was Commercial Roofing Systems.  The panels were purchased through ABC Supply Company.

Winning the first-place award in the residential roofs category was a private residence in Allentown, PA.  Dutch Seam  .040 aluminum standing seam metal panels in Char Brown were installed on the roof of this new home.  The solar-ready metal roofing acted as the perfect platform for solar panels, which were installed over the metal roofing.  Special clamps attached the solar panels to the standing seam of the metal roof panel, which helped to eliminate roof penetrations.  Studio 26 Homes was the architect for this house, and the metal roofing panels were installed by Munn Roofing & Sheet Metal.  The distributor was ABC Supply Company.

For the residential walls category, a private residence in Raleigh-Durham, NC took first place.  The "Steeplechase House" is a modern retreat designed by Brooks + Scarpa.  The 24-gauge steel Corrugated Panel in Black was installed on the walls and the roof of this unique residence by Bond Roofing. The panels were purchased through Handy Distribution.

A private residence in Logan, UT won first-place in the accents category.  A dome, manufactured from luned and curved PC System .040 aluminum panels in Black, was installed by Cache Custom Roofing & Sheet Metal. Roofers Supply was the distributor.

For the sustainable category, the U-Haul in Palm Bay, FL took first place.  Isoleren ML steel faced insulated metal panels in Regal White were installed by Atlas Building Company.  A&M Associates, Inc. was the architect for the project, and the panels were purchased through ABC Supply Company.

The Witherspoon Student Center in NC State University won first place in the interiors category.  Lineair Plank panels in a custom woodgrain finish were used in the ceiling.  CRA Associates, Inc. was the architect, and the panels were installed by Salisbury and Moore Construction.  The distributor was Colonial Materials, Inc.

Jim Bush, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for ATAS, remarked, "Congratulations to the winners of the 2024 ATAS Project of the Year Awards. Your innovative use of metal panels shows the strength, beauty, and versatility that metal brings to modern building design and construction. These projects are a testament to the creativity and excellence driving our industry forward."
