The recently completed Burns & McDonnell World Headquarters at 9450 Ward Parkway, Kansas City, Mo., has been named Project of the Year in the Mid-America Region by the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA). The 310,000 square-foot, 4-story building also received top honors in the Commercial Buildings category in the annual DBIA competition.

The growing congregation at the Church of the Harvest in Olathe, Kan., needed to greatly increase its worship capacity, and it was searching for a durable and attractive building. The combination of an engineered metal building from Butler Manufacturing with Tuff Wall panels from Metl-Span met the criteria that made everyone happy.
In addition to thermal performance, the windows needed to meet the area's hurricane codes. To help the existing structure handle the fastener loads of these heavy-duty units, additional metal framing was required to reinforce the jambs without affecting the overall window sightline.

Among the classic stone and wood materials, is an awe-inspiring golden ceiling made of shimmering, golden metal fabric. The metal mesh dresses the entryway, where visitors begin their tour, making a strong architectural statement. Then, throughout the gallery gold Escale creates a modern accent that contrasts beautifully against a natural palette.
