The Studio at 10a Greenwood Place in London completes its stylishly industrial revitalization with a unique lift enclosure. Two of Banker Wire’s mesh patterns, layered closely together, enhance the new office space created in a former Victorian depository.

The refurbished platform lift is enclosed in Banker Wire’s lock crimp wire mesh. The architects wanted to retain some of the office’s original industrial features and selected the L-80 black copper plated metal mesh and L-3 brass mesh. Layering the two types of mesh enabled the architects to create a look and feel befitting the building’s origins.

“We undertook an extensive research of various mesh products and Banker Wire products achieved the appearance and quality that we envisaged,” explains Natalia Scherchenkova, Project Architect, Squire and Partners. “The 2 layers of mesh were used within a bespoke frame panel that was produced by the metalwork subcontractors.”

As the office is designed to be open-plan, the lift is a focal point, offering transportation between floors, and is designed to evoke the building’s Victorian history. It is complemented by brick walls, concrete soffits, and exposed cast iron supports.

With a beautiful street frontage, The Studio provides ample light via expansive, modern windows, which open into the office space and illuminate the intricate lift cladding. The two combined woven metal patterns emphasize the era and accompanying architectural elements.

The Studio at 10a Greenwood Place project was completed in early 2017. The project team included architect Squire & Partners, London, England; fabricator Excel Architectural Engineering, Rochester, England; and Banker Wire UK Representative Amron Associates Limited, Kent, England.

What is Pre-Crimped Woven Wire Mesh?

Pre-crimped woven wire mesh is constructed of individual wires that are crimped prior to being woven together on a loom. Pre-crimping the wires provides a much higher degree of control during the weaving process. This allows for far more intricate and interesting patterns, as well as unique customization, to meet the vision of the designer. Banker Wire has refined and innovated its crimping process more than any other manufacturer, delivering more than 8,000 different spacing, diameter, and crimp combinations, plus endless customization options. As a result, Banker can make any woven wire mesh pattern imaginable – manufactured to spec for any project type.
