Ames Tools opens New York store

Ames Taping Tool Systems Inc. announces the opening of its newest store in Long Island City, N.Y. The opening continues the Atlanta-based firm's expansion into major metropolitan markets across the country. Ames has established company-owned store locations in more than 100 markets, in addition to franchise operations in over 80 of residential and commercial construction markets in the U.S. and Canada. The company has opened 10 new store locations this year, and continues its store opening program throughout the U.S. in the first half 2005.

Armstrong plant opens in Maryland

Walls & Ceilings visited the grand opening of Armstrong World Industries' new ceiling suspension system manufacturing plant in Aberdeen, Md., May 25. The event had a commemorative ceremony with company staff, with representatives from Worthington Armstrong Venture, as well as Aberdeen's Mayor Douglas Wilson.

Simpson Strong-Tie launches installation training kit as part of NAHB research center housing program

The Orange County Great Park Corporation invited 38 world-class firms to submit plans for the park's layout and opened the design competition to other qualified local and regional architectural firms.

AGC calls U.S. cement shortage dire; urges commerce secretary to allow readily available Mexican cement

The Associated General Contractors of America called on Commerce Secretary Gutierrez to intervene in the increasingly dire supply for cement in the U.S. before major economic disruptions occur. Recently, the AGC has received reports from contractors and concrete suppliers nationwide documenting quotas, delays and possible layoffs due to cement shortages in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri and Florida.
