The American Concrete Institute is pleased to recognize several individuals for their outstanding contributions and dedication to ACI and the concrete industry. The Fall 2022 awardees consist of personal and paper award winners who were recognized at the ACI Concrete Convention on Oct. 23-27.

This week, SWACCA concluded weeks of work to ensure the submission of three distinct comment letters in support of the Federal Acquisition Regulatory Council’s proposed rule entitled, “Use of Project Labor Agreements for Federal Construction Projects” to implement President Biden’s February Executive Order creating a presumption that PLAs are to be used by federal agencies for large-scale construction projects for which the cost is estimated to be $35 million or more, subject to specified exemptions.

Huttig Building Products, a Woodgrain Company, one of the largest domestic distributors of millwork, building materials and wood products, has entered into a new distribution partnership with Fiberon, a leading manufacturer of composite wood-alternative decking and railing products. The partnership supports Fiberon’s continued growth in the outdoor living space and significantly expands the company’s distribution through Huttig in the Southeast region of the United States.

The Reliability Excellence Center located at Huntsman’s polyurethane production site in Geismar, Louisiana, has been enhanced using Huntsman Building Solutions’ HEATLOK XT High Yield Spray Foam Insulation. Rader’s Insulation installed the foam into the facility’s ceilings and walls.

Simpson Strong-Tie, the leader in engineered structural connectors and building solutions, is supporting relief efforts for Hurricane Ian victims in Florida with a donation of $25,000 to the American Red Cross.

On Oct. 17, the National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation filed comments opposing a Federal Acquisition Regulatory Council proposed rule to block non-union workers from working on federal contracts. The rule requires federal agencies to impose Project Labor Agreements on contractors and employees who work on federal construction projects that will cost $35 million or more.

Leading affordable housing provider The NHP Foundation has secured redevelopment funds for its property Ridgecrest Village Apartments in the Congress Heights neighborhood of Washington, D.C. The deal includes $13.9 million in tax exempt bonds financed by JP Morgan Chase and the DC Housing Finance Agency, $16.8 million in federal funding and DC Low Income Housing Tax Credits, $16.13 million in Housing Production Trust Funds from the DC Department of Housing and Community Development, and $2 million in interim net operating income and deferred fees from NHPF.

The Metal Construction Association’s 2022 Design Awards were announced in October at METALCON, a major industry event held in Indianapolis.
