U.S. Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh announced a $20 million cooperative agreement between the Department of Labor and the nonprofit organization TradesFutures to advance equitable opportunities in construction through DOL’s “Scaling Apprenticeship Readiness Across the Building Trades” initiative.

Ware Malcomb announced Feb. 7 that Joshua Thompson has been promoted to Director of Interior Architecture & Design in the firm’s Downtown San Diego office. In this role, Thompson is responsible for the leadership of the office and continued growth of the Interior Architecture & Design Studio.

The U.S. Census Bureau launched a new experimental data product that features monthly construction spending estimates for private manufacturing. These estimates measure the construction work done on private new manufacturing structures or improvements to existing structures and include the cost of labor and materials, architectural and engineering work, overhead, interest, taxes paid during construction and contractor’s profits.

Construction firms added 25,000 employees in January and raised wages for hourly workers more steeply than other sectors, according to an analysis by the Associated General Contractors of America of new government data.
