Studio Ma Named Finalist for Overseas Projects, Design Honors

The architecture and environmental design firm Studio Ma has been selected as a finalist to provide worldwide design services for the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations - also known as OBO - which handles the construction and modernization of American diplomatic facilities.
Studio Ma is among 26 shortlisted practices for the U.S. State Department’s OBO work that includes firms such as Diller Scofidio + Renfro and Robert A.M. Stern Architects that was been lowered from a field of 136 submissions.
Studio Ma has several recent triumphs including the debut of its 715-bed campus housing project at Princeton University, published in Architect Magazine and winner of an AIA Western Mountain Region design award and Brick in Architecture Award. The firm has completed plans for other large-scale projects including the ISTB-7 science center at Arizona State University and the Utah mixed-use project called Summit Powder Mountain. The firm also celebrated the opening of a 1,600-student charter school and a new headquarters building, The Brokery, both in Phoenix.
Other laurels include a Grand Award for the multifamily development ArtHAUS in Phoenix, given in the Builder’s Choice & Custom Home Design Awards. Internationally, Studio Ma principal Christiana Moss, AIA, has served as juror for the Hong Kong-based Perspective A&D Trophy Awards, to be announced in November 2017.
Studio Ma has previously earned state AIA Honor Awards for the design of Arizona State University's Manzanita Hall and the Scottsdale Museum of the West, as well as being named to Architectural Record’s exclusive Design Vanguard. Citing Studio Ma’s “complex, large-scale work with masterful use of texture” in its architecture, urbanism, campus planning and more, AIA Arizona awarded Studio Ma the 14th annual Firm of the Year Award.
