In February, just weeks after the devastating fires that ravaged communities in greater Los Angeles, Nathan Kimmel's President Carol Schary reported on her experience in a specific roundtable.

"I participated in the Fire Experts Roundtable—a discussion prompted by the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles—that I believe you’d find both timely and informative," said Schary. "Although my Nathan Kimmel Co. facility and I were spared no damage, we did have to close for two days due to dangerous ash, poor air quality and strong winds."

At the roundtable, she posed a critical question: Why are builders still relying on wood framing instead of transitioning to steel studs? This inquiry led to an engaging discussion on innovative, non-combustible construction methods that also enhance earthquake resistance—an increasingly important consideration given the recent spate of minor earthquakes.

"To gain further insight, I connected with key industry players including the Steel Stud Manufacturing Association, Sure Board, and a local contractor who uses RSG 3-D board with cement finishes," Schary continued. "I also shared these ideas with representatives from GCP (the fireproofing material product manager), AWCI, the Western Walls and Ceilings Contractors Association, the Walls and Ceilings Alliance, and others."
